One premise of exopsychology, is that contemplating intelligent extraterrestrial Life is an aid to personal and collective evolution. If we are to take our place within a Galactic community, then we must first identify ourselves as humans and Terrans, and only secondarily (if at all) as members of nations, or religions.
This essay will explore various scenarios in an attempt to lay out some of the more likely possibilities of extraterrestrial presence on or near Earth. “More likely” means here “less improbable”. Any analysis of extraterrestrial agendas and identities can only be highly tentative. Here we will follow a few threads of thought to find that indeed, in the end, we are confronted with the most useful and answerable question of all: “What does it mean to be human?”
I will assume that the reader already knows that the evidence for UFOs is overwhelming. If you are not clear about that, please consult some of the resources available to you, through this site (”links”) and elsewhere.
To think about “aliens” introduces a host of questions and complications. Let us put aside for the moment issues of evidence and cover-up, to focus on the intentions of the “aliens.” Our response to Contact will depend mostly upon the perceived intentions of our first contact entities. And we will judge intent based upon not only obvious actions, but who we perceive them to be.
We are hard-wired to recognise social differences, and to adhere to our primate group. Presuming we evolve to over-ride reflexive exclusion tendencies, we will still judge our visitors’ intentions according to whether we see them as “humanoid”, “reptilian”, or “artificial.” They are the good, the bad, and the ugly. I choose these three based upon the contactee literature, where you can read many accounts that suggest all three may be operative. Actually, the literature suggests a vastly more complex picture, including “humanoid but acting artificial”, “humanoid but acting reptilian”, “transcendent beings of light like angels”, “insectoid”, and “indistinguishable from us.”
When thinking about aliens we must also take into account the inter-dimensional nature of many encounters. Do aliens reside in other dimensions, or do they reside in our dimension, but travel here through alternate dimensions? Or do both scenarios apply? To think about alternate dimensions, and to recognize the various time and space distortion effects that accompany close encounters, leads us to consider also the nature of time and the possibility of time travel.
Trying to think about aliens is to quickly descend down the rabbit hole, into a world of high strangeness.
And that is precisely why thinking about aliens can accelerate our evolution. For the “strange” is based upon data; while theories of alternate dimensions, quantum holography and entanglement and the zero point energy field are Terran, the result of scientific efforts to understand reality.
Reality is not the comfortable illusion that we are accustomed to. Our “consensus reality” is the illusion that the material world is solid, that alternate dimensions (if they really exist) are inaccessible, and that consciousness is not an integral part of the Cosmos. Alternate views of the Universe, rooted in quantum field theory first developed almost 100 years ago, are taking hold: Quantum Hologram, Holofractographic Universe theory, and variations on the theme that there is an all-pervading ether called the zero point field, that consciousness can affect matter, that everything is connected to everything else, information is ubiquitous, and that we can tap into that information using our mind.
Interestingly, these theories are not half-baked pseudo-scientific notions, but developing theories derived from data and supported by mathematics. The point I am making is that “high strangeness” is in fact reality, and we had better start getting used to it.
Whenever someone describes a paranormal event, and then says, “That is weird”, I usually retort: “Why weird? Hasn’t that happened to you before?” They usually admit that, yes, it has happened before to them or someone close to them. There seems to be a taboo about speaking seriously about paranormal events. This is similar to the stronger taboo on speaking seriously about extraterrestrial contact.
Back to extraterrestrials, starting with the bad: the “reptilian” possibility is perhaps the most threatening. Let us assume that evolutionary mechanisms and physical constraints galaxy wide gave rise to creatures that are all somewhat similar or recognisable as mammalian, reptilian, insectoid, etc.
If reptile -like animals evolved to be the dominant intelligent species on some planets, then we are looking at a species without the mammalian emotional apparatus that develops by, and depends upon connection, cooperation, nurturing and belonging. An intelligent reptilian species would be unable to connect with us through a familiar social engagement apparatus (face, voice, intonation, body language, etc.). We would see them as psychopathic, possibly predatory, even if their evolution had in fact favoured other reptilian traits and suppressed the more aggressive and self centred traits. Or, they may in fact be psychopathic, that is, incapable of considering the feelings of others. Sadly, there is evidence from our own Corporate Era, that psychopaths tend to rise to positions of power and influence. If that holds true on a galactic scale, then reptilians might be expected to be a dominant species. If they are the first extraterrestrials to contact us, then we will face a terrifying challenge.
If a reptilian species has contacted the military forces of the world, then the future bodes ill, because the military mind set (”command and control”) is particularly vulnerable to manipulation by a similar, yet more advanced mindset. The data documented by Dr. Jacques Vallee, among others, supports the idea that there is an aggressive non-Earth entity in operation. Alien encounters resulting in human injury and death have been recorded many times. Cattle mutilation, and the highly taboo cases of human mutilation, also point in very scary directions. The classic abduction scenario, with intrusive, painful “examinations” by various types of alien, sometimes working together, is a mystery that further complicates the picture. Let us leave “the bad”, and proceed to “the ugly.”
It has been suggested that artificial life forms are probably ubiquitous throughout the galaxy. Futurist and scientist Raymond Kurzweil has predicted that humanity will merge with technology in the near future, to result in a life that would be unrecognisable to us today. Once computer processing power is melded with our own brain wetware, and nanotechnology enhances our longevity and and performance, we will create increasingly complex and effective versions of ourselves, and further accelerate the technological innovation that began since about 1950. Only yesterday I came across an article from the BBC, predicting an artificial brain in 10 years.
There are many reports of aliens behaving as though they were artificial. Their skin, temperature, and especially their movements have all been cited as evidence of artificiality. It makes some sense that androids would be sent to first explore a planet and make initial contact. We would probably do the same, as a matter of safety and efficiency. I have sometimes wondered why the Roswell crashes were not retrieved by the aliens. Jacques Vallee, in Confrontations, records several instances of flying discs in trouble being assisted by others. Once crashed, however, there is not one record of an alien attempt to retrieve the craft. Why is that?
Three possible reasons come to mind:
- to assess human capacity for compassion and kindness to the injured occupants
- they do not care for their occupants, because they are artificial and linked to the craft
- the crashes are deliberate, only made to look accidental, as part of a licit or illicit (Galactic legal jurisdiction) technology seeding programme
All three of these agendas could benefit from an artificial life form operating the craft.
And now “the good”. Many people hope that the galaxy is populated by humanoid entities that are very similar, even indistinguishable, from us. Legends of alien intervention in human origins suggest that we were created in their image.
This is the most hopeful scenario, one where the aliens are really our family, and have an interest in our well being, and motivation to help save us from our worst self destructive follies. Unfortunately, there is little evidence of such a motive. The disabling of Ballistic Missiles at Malmstrom Air Force Base by a UFO is pointed to as evidence of benign concern, but the failure to intervene in any other way suggests indifference to our plight. Farmers take care of their animals, but the agenda, in the final analysis, is dinner, milk, or other advantage to the farmer. Blogger “ryan” elaborates upon this point and comes full circle back to a reptilian or psychopathic agenda of human control. But he admits that his reasoning (as mine) is so dependent upon assumptions that he could be all wrong.
It could be that our human-like overlords are in fact the gods of antiquity, overseeing humanity’s evolution throughout the ages, not to increase the herd and harvest us for food, but to usher us into the Galactic community. Part of the process of this cosmic midwifery would be for us to learn from our mistakes, experience pain and suffering, and through that pain, evolve. The wise know that pain is sometimes necessary. The butterfly’s struggles to emerge from the chrysalis are necessary for its wings to operate properly. To intervene with “help”, and cut the butterfly free, renders the butterfly incapable of flight. That is the best case scenario I can think of: we are doomed to suffer and writhe in collective pain until such time as we get our collective butts in gear and take care of business, living on Earth “as though we mean to stay” (Thanks to the Bioneers for that line).
Finally, there is the distinct possibility that all three scenarios are in play: Human-like beings watch over us and oversee our evolution, intervening only when we are in dire straights. They have artificial lifeforms that operate many of their craft. There are also reptilian or psychopathic beings with some selfish interest in humanity (I shudder to think what), and they also have their little androids doing their dirty work, including colluding with military forces. In this scenario, the galaxy is depressingly like Earth, or Star Wars: the eternal battle between the forces of Light and Dark rages on throughout time and eternity. If that is the Reality of the Physical Plane, then so be it.
In the end, all analyses come to one conclusion: whatever the deal, we have to learn to be real Terrans. We need to take care of our planet, stop electing psychopathic leaders, stop buying into the psychopathic Corporate agenda, take action to maintain our freedom, and think long term. In other words, we need to evolve to the point where we can claim our place in the Galaxy - not as refugees from our own stupidity and eco-destruction, not as imperial conquerors, but as friendly, smart neighbours who know to avoid the bad parts of town. Let’s hope the Galactic welcome wagon program is operated by nice beings, and not deceitful manipulators.
Ultimately, this is not a satisfactory analysis. Too much data is left out of the picture, ignored. It is too anthropocentric. The following post will take UFO analysis to another level, and hopefully be more comprehensive.
